Captain Belbin

Early in 1990, my father was on business in St. John’s, Newfoundland and introduced himself to the late Ruth Guzzwell and the Belbins of Belbins Grocery. The benefit of that chance meeting was that a copy of Ruth Guzzwell’s research into her Belbin ancestry was made available from which it was noted that Robert James Belbin’s grandson of New Zealand was also researching his maritime grandfather’s Newfoundland roots as were other members of the family in Australia. The trick was to bring these strands together and over the years a portrait of Captain Belbin has emerged and this page attempts to tell his story for all Belbins, not just for BelbinManiacs.
